The municipality was established in 1963 with eight members. The current council has nine members, including the president and vice president, and three employees: a treasurer, a secretary and a policeman.
The municipality has contracted with several workers and volunteers in the fields of public cleanliness, security, forest protection, topographic survey and project implementation.
The municipality has established a First Aid team with more than 15 volunteers equipped with first aid equipment, including an ambulance. It has also established a water committee to manage the administrative, construction and maintenance works related to water sources and networks.
The municipality is working on implementing several development projects according to a strategic plan that covers all sectors, with a special emphasis on the environmental aspect that distinguishes the town of Ainata.

Ainata is the highest inhabited village in Lebanon, where the residential area reaches 1680 meters above sea level. The town covers an area of about 47 km2 and borders the following towns: Deir al-Ahmar, Al-Yamouneh, Barqa, Nabha, Al-Zarazir, Bsharri and Hadath al-Jibbeh. The population of Ainata reaches about three thousand, as it includes more than 300 housing units. The town suffers from a large migration movement towards coastal cities and overseas countries, where only about 70 families remain in the winter.
